WWE Hall of Famer returns to the ring
The legendary, 54-year-old former WWE Champion has not wrestled in the squared circle since winning a High-Flying 420 Four Way Elimination Match against Isiah Kassidy, Komander, and Lee Johnson on the April 20, 2024, edition of AEW Rampage. Van Dam's return came as a surprise entry at MLW Battle Riot VII , broadcast from Thunder Studios Arena in Long Beach, California.
The returning star was ultimately eliminated as runner-up when Matt Riddle defended his MLW Heavyweight Championship in the 40-man Battle Riot Match, despite a strong performance in which he eliminated Bishop Dyer, formerly known as Baron Corbin in WWE.
WWE Superstar unimpressed by Riddle criticism
The victory at MLW Battle Riot is just one of the reasons why Matt Riddle has been making headlines in recent days.
The former WWE United States Champion publicly stated that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are the two most difficult Superstars to work with outside of the ring. Riddle cited the pair's refusal to listen to his opinion when scheduling matches as the reason for his choice.
Kevin Owens has since responded to the selection, noting that he was not surprised by Riddle's comments before sharply criticizing the former UFC fighter's attitude during his time in WWE.
